The Best Seat for Fall Color in the Piedmont

Most fall foliage trips mean crowds, traffic, and waiting in line at overlooks. Dove Cabin flips that. You get 110 private acres of mature hardwood — oak, maple, hickory, tulip poplar — turning in full color, with private trails and a porch overlooking the pond. No one else is there.

Fall Foliage Questions

When is peak fall foliage in the Virginia Piedmont?+
Peak color in the Somerset/Charlottesville area typically runs from mid-October through early November. The ridge elevations turn first, followed by the lower valleys. October weekends book out fastest — reserve early.
What makes Dove Cabin special for a fall trip?+
The property sits on 110 acres of mature hardwood forest — oak, maple, hickory, and tulip poplar that turn in full spectacular color. You can watch the foliage from the cabin porch overlooking the pond, walk the private trails through the woods, or drive 20 minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway for panoramic views.
Is October availability limited?+
Yes. Fall is our most competitive booking season. October weekends — especially mid-to-late October at peak color — fill well in advance. We recommend booking at least 6–8 weeks ahead for fall dates.
What can we do in the area during fall?+
The Piedmont wine country is gorgeous in fall. Barboursville Vineyards, King Family, and a dozen other wineries are within 30 minutes. Monticello and Montpelier run fall programming. The Montpelier Hunt Races happen the first Saturday of November. Hiking in Shenandoah National Park is also 45 minutes away.
