Barboursville Vineyards — one of Virginia's most acclaimed estates — is about 12 minutes from the cabin. King Family Vineyards, Horton Cellars, Keswick Vineyards, and more than a dozen other Piedmont producers are all within a 30-minute drive. Somerset sits in the middle of Virginia wine country.
Is Virginia Wine Month in October a good time to visit?+
October is arguably the best time to visit. The vineyards run special tastings and harvest events throughout the month, the fall foliage is at or near peak, and the weather is ideal. It's our most popular season — book early.
Can we walk to any wineries from the cabin?+
The wineries require a short drive, but with 110 private acres and a stocked trout pond on property, there's plenty to do without leaving. Most guests do 2–3 winery visits per day and come back to decompress at the cabin in the evenings.
Is Dove Cabin good for a bachelorette or girls' trip focused on wine?+
Absolutely. The cabin sleeps 6, has a full kitchen for pre-winery snacking and post-winery dinner, and a private sauna for winding down. The Piedmont wine trail makes an incredible backdrop for a group trip. Many of our guests do a self-guided winery route over 2–3 days.
